A weekend trip

The group took a weekend trip to Semuq, Champay
It is known in Guatemala for its beauty.
They stayed in cabins.
Behind their cabins there were pools and a river

There were so many beautiful views from this trip!
This is a place where they could swim turquoise pools,
repel waterfalls,
and swim inside dark caves by candle light....

Ash soakin up some rays with her friend

After a day in the sun, the group took a guided tour
through some underwater caves!
Lots of people that visit Semuq try this adventure!
And they had to use candles as their light source

We love technology

We were able to chat with Ash today!
We used SKYPE, which allows us to chat with her over the computer

She is already finishing her third week of Spanish classes

She is loving every minute!

Today's quotes from Ash:

"I finally learned how to take a shower that wasn't ice cold."
-since she got there, her house's shower had no hot water. Today she realized if she barely let the water trickle out, it would be warm.

"I am getting used to eating fried bananas."

"Although there were no damages reported in Guatemala from the recent earthquake, we did however feel a little rumble for about 10 seconds. Enough for the desks to move while we were in our Spanish class. I didn't even realize it was an earthquake till my teachers said something."
-her response to all my mom's questions if she was ok

"Finally my poop is solid!"
-her response when I asked if her and her group members were over being sick and were used to the water and food. She had been having issues :)

first update

Here is an update on our little Ash in Guatemala! Enjoy.

The Guatemalan beauty:

Ash takes great pictures

On Saturday they went on a hike.
They paralleled an active volcano

Then on a different day their group went on a different hike

Here is what we got in a recent email from her:

My family is the BEST! My host mom Eunice is
just so nice. She stays and eats with me and
we just chat about our families and about everything.
It is so fun. The dog Cosita smells really bad
but is so cute!!! It has the curliest white hair.
My host dad Rojelio is pretty quiet and does not
really eat with us yet at least. He is really nice
though. Eunice said I can have my friends over whenever
I want and we can chat and watch movies in my room..
oh my room has a tv! It is all in Spanish though but
I just fall asleep to the noise. My shower was freezing!!!!
I was shivering. So I think I am going to take
them right after I run from now on so that I am hot.
